Food labeling: Chicago Tribune investigation

November 21st, 2008 by Mandy

This morning, I dragged myself out of my apartment and scooped up my copy of the Chicago Tribune on my way to the El, like every morning. But when I sat down and opened up, I was greeted by the “shocking” news of crummy food labeling laws with their front page story dramatically titled, “Children at risk in food roulette.” This is, of course, not news to me or any readers of this blog, but it turns out there are these people out there with food allergies who would really like their foods to be labeled properly. Huh.

The Tribune did a really great job with their investigation, though. I won’t repeat it all here, but you can check out what I wrote for another site here. Also, do yourself a favor and check out the story. Bonus: The Tribune created a database of all foods recalled since 1998, 47 percent of which were never announced to the public. Check it all out!
