Gluten, gluten everywhere.

Committed gluties are avid readers. We dissect ingredient lists, recipes, menus – any description of the foods we eat - with a fine tooth comb. But do we apply the same diligence to the medicines and vitamins we take to feel better? Scarily, gluten is a hidden ingredient in many meds. Since it is not an active ingredient, it does not need to be labeled. Gluties know all to well, though, that even as an inactive ingredient, gluten can be detrimental to our health. The National Celiac Foundation knows this too and they’ve partnered with Giant Pharmacy and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists to host an educational session on gluten in medication. It’s tomorrow at the Hyatt in Bethesda. If you’re free, check it out. They’re even offering a cooking spree in the evening!
